They attach with Velcro so all you have to do is press down to attach it. Next take off the cap and add water. No cleaning agents should be used for the steam mop. Use the funnel to make adding water much easier. The tank only holds eight ounces of water. Don't fill it up past the black arrow to avoid a water spill. Before you start using the steam mop, press it down 10-15 times until the Shark starts to hiss and steam. Then it is ready to clean. For small smudges and marks on the floor, the steam mop did excellent. It is very light at three pounds, but still can stick and be hard to push across the floor at times. Also the handle feels flimsy, so don't twist much because it feels like it might snap. For a larger stain, which we left on the floor for weeks before we tested it, it didn't come out easily. Go slow over tougher stains. For tile and linoleum, the steam mop did a good job again. It is small enough to fit into tight spaces like around a toilet or into corners. It seemed to slide easier on tile and linoleum than it did on the wood flooring. The microfiber steam mop pad was pretty dirty after we cleaned a few rooms.
